I see the day of Pakistani health workers’ victory over polio is very near
Twenty years back, when I first joined the programme, polio was so widely prevalent across Pakistan that one could come across many people struck by polio in every city.
The recent progress in reducing the numbers of children paralysed by the polio virus has been inspiring for me and all my fellow health workers.
It feels completely different when you know you are working for a winning cause. During polio campaign days I go door to door to vaccinate children and on other days I go back to check the door marking to see if any child has been missed.
It angers me that some people deny their children the critical polio drops and compromise their future. I use various ways to convince them. Good communication with the sceptical parents does miracles at the doorstep.
