This archive collects the official announcements issued by Pakistan's polio eradication programme through the National Emergency Operations Centre. Releases fall into a small number of recurring types, and knowing which type you are reading makes the archive far more useful.

Case confirmations

Issued when the WHO-accredited Regional Reference Laboratory at the National Institute of Health in Islamabad confirms wild poliovirus type 1 in a child with acute flaccid paralysis. These name the district, the child's age, and the running national tally for the year. Confirmation typically lags the onset of paralysis by several weeks, which is why a case announced in one month may refer to an illness that began earlier.

Reading them in sequence shows the geography of transmission far better than any single release: recent years cluster heavily in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Quetta block. The district-wise tracker aggregates them.

Environmental surveillance results

Monthly and periodic reporting on sewage samples collected from fixed sites nationwide. Because most poliovirus infections cause no symptoms at all, these results usually detect circulation weeks before any child is paralysed — which makes them the programme's earliest warning system. Campaign announcements

Launch notices for national immunisation days, which target around 45 million children under five, and for risk-based sub-national rounds. These give campaign dates, the target child population and the districts covered, so families know when a team will call.

Partnerships and visits

Agreements with corporate and institutional partners, and the conclusions of high-level delegations from the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. These matter more than they appear to: eradication is a fixed-cost commitment with an uncertain end date, so continued funding has to be argued for repeatedly. See partners and donors.

Statements on vaccine safety, refusals, security incidents affecting frontline workers, and religious guidance on vaccination. These respond to the social conditions that determine whether campaigns succeed — which in the last mile of eradication matter as much as the epidemiology.
