22 Jan, 2015, Islamabad - As part of Rotary International's efforts to continue the decades long battle till the ultimate victory against Polio is achieved, a "Rotary Flame" was launched to travel around the world including the countries where polio still exists. "The Rotary Flame", a brain child of Rotary Club of Madras, India was lit by Rotary International President Gary C.K. Huang in Chennai, India on the 13th of December 2014, and is being carried out to several countries before reaching Sao Paulo, Brazil for the 106th Rotary international convention.

The Flame on its route to Sao Paulo, Brazil was carried by a Rotarian from Colombo and arrived at Karachi on 5th January 2015.

The Rotary Flame reached Rawalpindi / Islamabad on 20th January 2015 after making stop overs at Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, Sukkhar, Rahimyar Khan, Multan, Faisalabad and Lahore.

On 22nd January 2015, an impressive Rotary Flame Ceremony was held at National EOC Building, NIH, Chak Shahzad, Islamabad. The flame was handed to EOC Coordinator Dr. Rana Safdar with a pledge that all out efforts would be made to root out "Polio" from Pakistan. A large number of Rotarians and Heads of Partner Organisations were present at the ceremony. 

In connection with END POLIO NOW awareness campaign Rotary International is playing an important and vital role to eradicate Polio from the face of earth and the current effort of carrying the End Polio Now Flame through the various countries is part of the effort to achieve global eradication.

The Rotary Flame will be handed over to the Rotarians of Peshawar , who will pass the Rotary Flame onto Kabul, Afghanistan.

The journey of the Rotary Flame will end at Sao Paulo - Brazil where 106th Rotary International Convention will be held in June, 2015.
