Islamabad, 5^th Dec, 2014: Prime Minister’s Focal person on Polio Eradication Ms. Ayesha Raza Farooq met Maulana Hafeez Jalandhari today to discuss the role of religious leaders in addressing misconceptions about polio and all other vaccines.

The Prime Minister’s Focal Person during the meeting with Maulana Jalandhari expressed that the role of ulema is seen as a key to build an enabling and supportive environment for Polio Eradication Program.  “Pakistan is going through a “Make or Break” situation in Polio Eradication program and polio campaigns can achieve results with the support of Ulema”, said PM Polio Focal Person.

She said that in order to make Pakistan a developed country we must emerge as a healthy nation. Maulana Hafeez Jalandhri and PM Polio Focal Person during their deliberations agreed that protection of children is not only our social responsibility but a moral and religious obligation as well.

Islamic Scholars, Religious leaders and opinion makers can play a leading role in educating the parents to full fill their obligations to ensure a healthy life of their children. Maula Hafeez Jalandhari assured firm commitment of Ulema in polio eradication and said that It is our core responsibility to provide best health practices to our children and Ulema across Pakistan stand united for raising awareness in favour of polio program.
